The April Fool's Run is just one of many athletic events on the Sunshine Coast. For those of you who live here or just enjoy visiting, we have compiled this calendar of races for your convenience. A number are hosted by Sunshine Coast Athletics (SCA). All local runners are invited to join our club for group runs, speed training, race travel and parties!

April 22, 2017: at Pender Harbour Lions Park, the 3rd annual Mountain Grind is a nature influenced obstacle course race for ages 10 and up, showcasing the Suncoaster Trail in Pender Harbour. Chip timed race for single participants or join as a group. Each racers receives a T-shirt, medal, and free BBQ dinner. There are vendors, music, beer gardens and kids games for everyone to enjoy. April 30, 2017: Marathon Shuffle Trail Run — run or hike a 29k portion of the Sunshine Coast Trail (Powell River) at this Club Fat Ass Flash event. There's also a Half Shuffle (12k). The course is challenging with some big climbs and descents and amazing views along the way. No entry fee. Limit 450 entrants. Wait list available. Website: www.sunshinecoast-trail.com/events/
May 13, 2017: Tune up your mountain bike for the Sunshine Coaster, held on the popular trails of the Sunshine Coast (West Sechelt). Beer garden and after-race BBQ. Website: www.sunshinecoaster.net
May TBC, 2017: A community fair event, the Pender Harbour May Day 4 km Fun Run is free! 8:00am start in Madeira Park on the main street in Pender Harbour. Bring the family and stick around afterwards for a fun-filled day of games, food, parade, entertainment, craft booths and more! Check local newspapers for details as the date approaches.
June 10, 2017: inaugural Puddle Jumper Classic in Roberts Creek — the Sunshine Coast's first ever ultra marathon! 25k and 50k options, and a 1k kids' race. Enjoy the beautiful single track trails above Roberts Creek, with post-race BBQ. Start/finish at Cliff Gilker Park. puddlejumperclassic.weebly.com
July 9, 2017: Take in a traditional community event by running the Halfmoon Bay Trophy Run. Pleasant net downhill 5.4 km route starts at Connor Park and ends at the Halfmoon Bay Country Fair in Cooper's Green—entry is free! Bring the whole family and enjoy the Fair afterwards, with food, kids games, music and local artisans. Race starts at 9:30am. Sign up at 9:00am at Connor Park (on Northwood, near HMB Elementary).
July 29, 2017: Test your speed at the 15th annual Gibsons Sea Cavalcade Mile. In conjunction with the Sea Cavalcade Festival, this is a one mile road race in Upper Gibsons, right before the parade, on a net downhill course with no turns. Very low entry fee. August 6, 2017: Four Lakes 10k + 3k in Garden Bay, starting and finishing at Katherine Lake Park, going to Hotel Lake and back. Beautiful course on quiet rural roads along lakeshore and forest, with a couple of moderately challenging hills in the first half. Custom awards, home-baked goodies and draw prizes. August TBA, 2018: Join thousands of other paddlers from as far away as Hawaii at the International Howe Sound Outrigger Race, in Gibsons. The largest paddling event of its kind in Canada, this event is touted as one of the top 10 outrigger races in the world. Happens every other year. August 27, 2017: Seventh annual Run the Rock Marathon, Half & 8K on beautiful Texada Island, a 30 min ferry ride from Powell River. Single loop marathon course with the half marathon starting at the halfway point. Fast scenic point to point 8K. September 2017: Terry Fox Run in Gibsons and Roberts Creek. Check local paper for details, or visit www.terryfox.org/Run.
October 1, 2017: Halfmoon Bay Fire Department 10k. 'Run until it burns.' This is a fundraiser for the HMB Volunteer Fire Department, and runs from the Welcome Woods Hall (#2) to the hall by the General Store (#1). October 8, 2017: Loon Lake 13k, 7k in Powell River. Run, walk or bike. Fabulous trail run on perfectly groomed, wide trail around the lake, with no hills. (The lake is now known as Inland Lake.) Campground on site. Proceeds to Special Olympics BC. Website: www.sunshinecoastathletics.org/loonlake/
December 10, 2017: Holiday Hustle 5k & 2k: 6th annual run/walk/dance-walk with a Christmas and music theme, starting/finishing at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt. Proceeds to the local high school track teams; donations accepted to the Elves Club. Fabulous prizes, delicious Christmas goodies, and family fun! 5k and 2k options.
