The April Fool's Run is just one of many athletic events on the Sunshine Coast. For those of you who live here or just enjoy visiting, we have compiled this calendar of races for your convenience. A number are hosted by PaceSetter Athletic Club. All local runners are invited to join our club for group runs, speed training, race travel and parties!

February 24 to August 25, 2018: Inaugural Sunshine Coast Trail Series: Get ready to explore the Lower Sunshine Coast and its amazing network of trails with a new 6-race trail series starting from Pender Harbour and making its way to Gibsons with a variety of trails and courses. April 21, 2018: at Pender Harbour Lions Park, the 4th annual Mountain Grind is a nature influenced obstacle course race for ages 10 and up, showcasing the Suncoaster Trail in Pender Harbour. Chip timed race for single participants or join as a group. Each racers receives a T-shirt, medal, and free BBQ dinner. There are vendors, music, beer gardens and kids games for everyone to enjoy. April 28-29, 2018: 25th anniversary of the Marathon Shuffle Trail Run — run or hike a 29k portion of the Sunshine Coast Trail (Powell River). The Half Shuffle (12k) takes place on the Saturday, with the Full Shuffle on the Sunday. The course is challenging with some big climbs and descents and amazing views along the way. No entry fee. May 5, 2018: Tune up your mountain bike for the Coaster 50, held on the popular trails of the Sunshine Coast (West Sechelt). 50k and 21k distances offered. Two awesome courses on Sunshine Coast single track, lakeside trails, ocean views, and canopied climbs! Beer glass, beer and after-race BBQ included. Website: www.sunshinecoaster.net
May 19, 2018: A community fair event, the Pender Harbour May Day 4 km Fun Run is free! 8:00am start in Madeira Park on the main street in Pender Harbour. Bring the family and stick around afterwards for a fun-filled day of games, food, parade, entertainment, craft booths and more! Check local newspapers for details as the date approaches.
June 9, 2018: second annual Puddle Jumper Classic in Roberts Creek — the Sunshine Coast's only ultra marathon! 25k and 50k options. Enjoy the beautiful single track trails above Roberts Creek, with post-race BBQ. Start/finish at Cliff Gilker Park. www.teamwolverineathletics.com/puddle-jumper-classic.html
NOT HAPPENING IN 2018, should be back in 2019: Take in a traditional community event by running the Halfmoon Bay Trophy Run. Pleasant net downhill 5.4 km route starts at Connor Park and ends at the Halfmoon Bay Country Fair in Cooper's Green—entry is free! Bring the whole family and enjoy the Fair afterwards, with food, kids games, music and local artisans. Race starts at 9:30am. Sign up at 9:00am at Connor Park (on Northwood, near HMB Elementary).
July 28, 2018: Test your speed at the 16th annual Gibsons Sea Cavalcade Mile. In conjunction with the Sea Cavalcade Festival, this is a one mile road race in Upper Gibsons, right before the parade, on a net downhill course with no turns. Very low entry fee. August 12, 2018: Four Lakes 10k + 3k in Garden Bay, starting and finishing at Katherine Lake Park, going to Hotel Lake and back. Beautiful course on quiet rural roads along lakeshore and forest, with a couple of moderately challenging hills in the first half. Custom awards, home-baked goodies and draw prizes. August TBA, 2018: Join thousands of other paddlers from as far away as Hawaii at the International Howe Sound Outrigger Race, in Gibsons. The largest paddling event of its kind in Canada, this event is touted as one of the top 10 outrigger races in the world. Happens every other year. August 26, 2018: Eighth annual Run the Rock Marathon, Half & 8K on beautiful Texada Island, a 30 min ferry ride from Powell River. Single loop marathon course with the half marathon starting at the halfway point. Fast scenic point to point 8K. September 16, 2018: Terry Fox Run in Gibsons and Roberts Creek. Check local paper for details, or visit www.terryfox.org/Run.
Date TBA, 2018: Loon Lake 13k, 7k in Powell River. Run, walk or bike. Fabulous trail run on perfectly groomed, wide trail around the lake, with no hills. (The lake is now known as Inland Lake.) Campground on site. Proceeds to Special Olympics BC. Website: https://pacesetterathletic.club/loonlake/
September 30, 2018: Halfmoon Bay Fire Department 10k. 'Run until it burns.' This is a fundraiser for the HMB Volunteer Fire Department, and runs from the Welcome Woods Hall (#2) to the hall by the General Store (#1). December 9, 2018: Holiday Hustle 5k & 2k: 7th annual run or walk with a Christmas and music theme, starting/finishing at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt. Proceeds to the local high school track teams; donations accepted to the Elves Club. Fabulous prizes, delicious Christmas goodies, and family fun! 5k and 2k options.
