Event Info » Race Day Shuttles & Parking
We rent school buses on race day to get you where you need to go, hassle-free.
On race morning, school buses will take participants from the Langdale ferry terminal to the start — for those taking the 7:30am sailing. Free for participants and volunteers. If you are bringing non-running/non-volunteering companions, they need to pay $2 each to the volunteer as they board (no change provided).
In case there are too many participants to fit on our buses, and you don't want to wait for a second pick-up run, the public bus leaves at 8:14am from the end of the passenger walkway, and will get you to the start area by 8:35am. Cost is $2. Get off the public bus at Sunnycrest Mall and walk up Sunnycrest Road or Park Road to get to the Community Centre.
Note, there is plenty of free parking at the Community Centre and nearby Sunnycrest Mall for those arriving by car.
If you are coming from Davis Bay or would prefer to park at the finish and bus to the start, we will have a single shuttle pickup at 7:30am from the beach parking lot (near the Rotary washroom building). You will be dropped off at the foot of Park Road at 7:45am (200m from the community centre).
Parking is available at the Davis Bay Beach parking lot, and along the waterfront towards Sechelt. All parking is free. NO PARKING ON THE HIGHWAY AT MISSION POINT PARK.
From Sechelt you could catch the public bus at 7:13am from Trail Bay Mall, which arrives in Gibsons at 7:52am (next trip, on the Express route, leaves at 8:30am arriving at 8:57am, a bit close for comfort!). For the complete bus schedule click here (choose Sunday Schedule and Change Direction).
Shuttle buses will be running back and forth between the start and finish while the race is on, via the highway. Relay runners can be dropped off and picked up close to the exchange points. Spectators can use the first shuttle to get to the finish. See course map
Depending on your pace, these shuttles may or may not work for your relay team. Please estimate your arrival times at each exchange and plan accordingly (allow time for warm-up). Leg 2 runners who need to arrive earlier than the shuttle can easily jog over to exchange 1 from the community centre — it's only 1.5 km away. Shuttle times are approximate and may be affected by traffic conditions.
If you have friends or family driving to the finish, they can park BEFORE or BEYOND Mission Point Park, around the corner in Davis Bay or on Whitaker Road, but NOT on the highway shoulder directly across from the park.
After finishing, school buses will take you back to the start and the Langdale ferry terminal, also free of charge. The schedule is set up so visitors can get the 1:05pm or 3:15pm ferry. Multiple bus trips will be made starting at 11:30am. First come first served.
Buses will load at the Davis Bay parking lot, just beyond the finish area. They will leave when full or at the scheduled time, whatever comes first.
* Will stop at Gibsons Garden Hotel, then wait at the Cedars Inn until 2:00pm before leaving for ferry terminal (2nd bus to ferry only if first one fills up)
If you need to return at a different time, or the shuttle you need is full, public transit is available for $2. Buses leave Sechelt approximately every hour. Travel time is approximately 30-35 minutes to Gibsons (alternating trips go through Roberts Creek). For the complete bus schedule: click here (regular route) and here (express). Nearest public bus stop to the finish line is located at the far end of the Davis Bay Beach parking lot.
There is plenty of free parking at the Gibsons Community Centre at the start, both in the Centre's parking lots and along Park Road beside the playing fields. More parking is available at Sunnycrest Mall, about 250m west of the Community Centre.
On race day, NO PARKING on the highway across from the finish line or 100m to either side. Best to avoid parking on the highway anywhere.
All free parking. A number of parking spots can be found at the Davis Bay Beach parking lot, just around the corner from the finish line. There are also a few spots in Brookman Park across from the finish line. Additional parking can be found on side streets off the highway, just past the finish line.
There are two options: 1) BC Ferries provides paid parking at the terminal. View details and rates at on the BC Ferries website. 2) A 900m / 10 minute walk away, for about half the cost, is the Ambleside Tiddlycove Lions Club parking lot. For either choice, save $ by carpooling. Also note, the #257 and #250 buses go from downtown Vancouver right to the terminal, so you may be able to avoid paying for parking altogether, if travelling before race day (first bus on Sundays is not quite early enough to catch the first sailing).
